Upper ball joint mount????

This kit was purchased from the original owner and some of the work has been done. Today I was reinstalling the front suspension and noticed the upper control arms were assembled identically. To make them right and left you are to install the ball joint from opposite ends. My UCA look different from my old car and nothing like any pics I've found. The threads are flush on one side and protrude about .25" on the other. Doing this puts one ball joint higher than the other.

What would be the best course of action to take with this setup?

Coincidentally I just encountered this today on a previously started Mk3 also. I too wanted to make them match but it is not possible. The car I'm working on is only about 4 months older than my Mk3 which has symmetrical upper control arms. A mk4 I built is symmetrical as well. Functionally the ones like yours and the one I found today will be fine with the solid link at the front on one side and the rear on the other but the two sides not being exact mirror images is one of those things that will bug me (and you too it seems!).

No, they should be assembled the same. There is no left and right with that style of mount.
