Wilwood rear caliper centering issue

I have the FFR Wilwood brakes and the Moser 3-link rear.

Putting the "C" bracket on per the instructions with the completely flat side towards the housing flange leaves me so off center, that I cannot mount the caliper. About 3/16". I have no spacer washers in, and need to move the opposite way that installing washers would go. I need the caliper to move outboard. Washers would move it inboard.

The rotor is fully seated on the axel flange. Measured thickness and then depth through a hole.

If I put the "C" braclet on the opposite side that gets me to about 1/16". The rotor is so close to the caliber bracket, that I can't even get a thin feeler gauge in. I can mount the caliper and turn the rotor. I don't think switching the bracets is a problem as there is a full mating surface for the housing flange.

If I put a 1/16th thick washer between the housing flange and the C bracket, it lines up perfectly.

I see three options:

1. Put in the washers and call it a day. I am a little concerned as the C bracket sits on a little lip and this backs it most of the way off. It does have 4 bolts though. Does this look safe to you guys? Here it is in mock up with 2 bolts.

2. Make a spacer for the whole flange. More contact area, same lip issue.

3. Machine the caliper bracket. The one with the two studs. Have 1/16th milled off of the mating surface with the threaded holes. See finger.

As always, thanks in advance for the help.

The kit is designed to work with two different axle offsets. Fits both 2.5 and 2.61 offsets.

You should just need to swap the flat brackets (Right to Left and Left to Right) which mount to your axle flange. Your radial bracket will need to mount on the stepped surface of the flat bracket and will move the caliper in.

The flat bracket should mount flush against the axle flange. (no washers)

All shimming is done between the two brackets.

The caliper will mount at about 7-8 o'clock on the drivers side and 4-5 on the pass side. (Toward the front of the car.)

I did switch the C brackets from left to right. That got me from 3/16, can't mount the caliper, to 1/16 can get the caliper on, but it is offset and REALLY close to the rotor.

I need 1 more 16th. I have not mocked up the other side or measured the offsets.

That washer in the red circle gets me to the correct place. I know that is not technically supposed to be there. Any washers between the two brackets move me the wrong way.

What's your axle offset? (From axle face to axle housing face) Is it 2.61, 2.50, or something different????

I'll get some measurements this weekend. I also need to mock up the passanger side to see if it is the same over there.

I found the issue.

First I mounted up the passanger side to see if the issue was on both sides. The passanger side mounts up and centers perfectly with no C bracket to stud bracket shims.

Something is different. I went into measure everything mode. Compared driver and passanger side on everything.

Offset of housing to axel flange.
C bracket thin and thick part
Caliper stud bracket both parts. Mounted and measured stud to axel flange
Rotor offset and thickness.
All good.

Then I measured the mounting holes to the side of the bracket that is on the calipers. I have exactly 1/16th differance. The holes are offset on the driver side caliper. If they were offset the other way, I could shim it. The top one is good, the bottom one is bad.

I will call FFR on Monday.

Finding

I have a similar problem with my 4 piston wilwood rears. Did you ever get the issue figured out? I have called Moser and wilwood and they can't tell me anything ( CYA). My measuements are different side to side .240 and .323 with all measurements being correct 54" axle, 29 3/16 shafts. My offset shows 2.75 on both sides. My next move is to machine the brackets I guess.

Do you know which part is the issue? I measured everything, axels, flanges, brackets, etc.

My issue was on the driver side caliper. The holes were off center. I called FFR and wilwood sent me a new one. It was better but not perfect.
It was close enough for me to take the bracket down with a file. It took several hours, mostly keeping things squared up.

If I had to do it again I would have the bracket machined, which would be a ten minute job.

.

Not sure which part is the problem. All of my diamesions are the same left to right but on the axle, when I mock the calipers up without the spacer I have 2 different measurements. Machining the brackets is the easy way out but doesn't fix the problem. I didn't even think about the caliper itself be off

Sorry to dig this up, but I am running into the same problem. I have the FFR Moser 3-link rear end and am using Wilwood's 4 piston 12.9" rotor w/ internal parking brake (part # 140-9223).

My issue is that the offsets are different on each side (drivers= 2.714, passenger = 2.583), and my caliper spacing brackets are way to thick. Mine are .63" thick and I need .240" on the drivers side and .405" on the passenger side. I don't get why the offset is different other than Moser might have made the axle wrong. Even if the offset was correct (2.50") on both sides my spacer would not work.

I called wilwood today and they said the correct spacer for that kit should be .480" thick which would still be too thick.

I guess to fix it I will get the spacers machined down to the correct thickness.
