Steel fuel line unions

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I have been stressing over this for the past week. I ran these fuels lines back in 2004 when I started my build (yes, it has been that long). I can't recall why I did it this way (presumably due to kinking the line..?).

So my question is: Is this safe? Should I just remove these lines and run new lines without a union? I am running EFI.

Searching the forum, I have seen other builds where there seem to be unions in the steel lines so I hope its fine.

Thanks
Joe

Union

Joe:

I'm not sure why you did that either, but it looks like you used a flare on each tube and an inverted flare union. That should be fine. Make sure that each side of the union is supported by those tubing clamps like you have to minimize any vibration that could make the tubes at the union crack. Go with it.

Those are the same fittings you'd use on brake lines and would hold hundreds of psi. Your EFI system will be at around 40psi, so no issues there.

Just check for leaks when you start it up to make sure they're dry.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ron, I'll make sure to add some tube clamps around the union.

Don't know what I would do without the forum!

Standard "Bundyflex" SAE 45 invert flare lines premade are the reason that is done. Nothing wrong with it at all, it's normal. No sense messing with buying a double flare tube tool, learning how to use it, running all the lines, and then messing up the one flare. Just buy premade and screw together, done.

The advantage is that you get factory made and inspected joints, with straight tubing you can bend at the precise point you want. If someone was using bulk tubing off a roll, it won't ever be straight, but it will run continuously from back to front. Any repair, of course, would have to splice back into either, and that's when the tube flaring tool might be needed.

They don't need clamps on them, and you're much better equipped than using expensive fake aircraft hose that rots the entire length of the run.
