Hey Guys,
Im looking for any previous posts or infomation on relocating the hand brake that comes from FF with the complete kit. I want to relocate to the top of the trans tunnel. I have done a few searchs, only to find limited posts, mostly on mk3 or earlier. Is there much difference between the mk3 and mk4 in regards to relocating the hand brake? Im also trying to determine which cables I need to go with the wilwood brakes on the straight axle rearend. Any links to posts or information would be much appeciated!

Mk3 and Mk4, same same as far as ebrake. The posts will be interchangable between the two. Don't know about the cables though, I used a tbird cable with the 11.65 Cobra brakes not the Wilwood setup. I used a Lokar handle on the top of the transmission tunnel.
Need help finishing your project we can help here or at your shop.

Search for dv/dt (Rod) as he posted drawings of his mounting system. I was going to make that modification, on my Mk4, using the Ford supplied emergency brake. His drawings did not work so I modified it to fit the Ford brake system. However, the newer supplied, by FFR, emergency brakes are still another type of brake but you'll be able to get started with a design by finding his postings.
Because I'm adding a console on top of the transmission cover the length of the brake handle would not fit, so I've got two mountings that I'm not going to use.
If you have the complete kit. the handle that comes with the kit easily converts to use on the top of the trans tunnel by removing the L brackets and replacing them with bushings. Personally, i dont like the look of trans cover mounted brakes. messes with the mojo.

Not sure if this helps you or not but here is the stock Ebrake handle relocated to the top of the trans tunnel on my Gen II coupe. Just a short piece of angle iron welded in and drilled to mount it to.
Relocated mine to the tunnel, but did a bit of surgery, and made it flush with the top of the tunnel - required cutting/moving tubing, but end result should be clean.

I left mine on the right side like the kit comes...works perfectly with the mustang handle (I didn't use the one that came with the kit). Why are you bothering relocating it? All you need are shorter cables, I forget what year are the shorter cables but they ran perfectly for me. I can dig up my pictures/posts/info on the subject if you decide to stay on the right side and want more info.

I think that would be even harder to get to than having it on the other side of the tunnel. Plus you would have to flip your hand over in an awkward way to be able to grasp the handle. And finally, its tight enough in the cockpit as it is...why would you want to make the width of your seating space even narrower by putting a handle there next to your hip? But sure, I can dig it.

Crook, just a comment that may be wrong...but I am pretty sure I have heard people say that if you ever want to track you car you can't have your fuel lines in the tranny tunnel. So if you think you might ever want to track the car, maybe consider relocating them. I think the concern is if something busts loose on the drivetrain (u joint on the driveshaft comes to mind) then you will slice your line and have a fuel fire on your hands faster than you can say "I wish I had participated in the EES Fire Supression System Group-Buy" Sorry about the off topic comment, but I noticed that on your pic.

Am I missing something about the FF hand brake and relocating it to the top of the tunnel? There sure doesnt seem to be much encouragement to use on the tunnel. Is the FF hand brake poorly manufactured or designed poorly for this use? Let me know.

I don't think it's so much the functionality folks are hinting about but more so the aesthetic. While it's easier to reach the look is a little odd. Kinda like the dual roll bar vs one debate.
I was also thinking of moving the EBrake to the top of the tunnel, not so mush for aesthetics but mostly so it would be easier to reach. Can a driver even reach the emergency brake on the PS tunnel from the driver seat with the seat belt harness on?

I haven't made it that far on my Coupe but at build school I tried reaching the e-brake handle in the stock location while strapped in and I couldn't do it (none of us could). Another thing about the FFR e-brake; the guy teaching the build school pointed out that the ratchet is made of mild steel and the teeth were already worn down on the build car. His suggestion was to use an aftermarket handle and ratchet or make sure you always hold the button down while pulling the e-brake.
GT Tom thank you for saying it, Wye reach across the tunnel and wye put a dumb e-brake handle beside the shifter of one of the most famous race cars in the world . Mine is beside my right pants pocket , and you cannot see it unless it is engaged , I am not proud of my e-brake but by state law it is required . Think of this ( one of the most famous cars in racing history ,,and then mount the Emergency brake beside or near the floor shifter,,,I don't think Hank dun-it this away
Is there no one who has used the FF Hand Brake and Moved it to the top of the tunnel of a MK4 with Pics?? Search has not gotten me much(even the google)
Thanks,
Todd
