How to protect new alum. intake manifold

I've had intakes get nasty from gas stains in short order before. I think there porous and thats why they stain easy. I'd like to do something here at the house to protect it. dont want to polish it. maybe some clear paint. I've got some clear in a can. But on my tranny clear changed the color of it when I did it. anyone got any ideas. what have you guy had success with. I'd like it to be period correct, but I could paint it also. Thanks

I think Eastwood has an answer

I have heard good things about this aluminum paint.

Aluma Blast Paint Aerosol 12 oz - Aerosol Paint - Acrylic Lacquer Paint - Eastwood

I think they have a high heat clear satin paint also that can take 300 degree F.

have it powder coated to match your car color, or to a color of your choice. Will last and not stain...

The Diamond Clear Satin that Ron mentioned is good for about 5 years, but over time it will darken a bit. As coatings go, its probably the best do-it-yourself solution. I was at my powder coaters recently as saw a few manifolds he did in a natural aluminum finish. They were awesome... definately the direction im going from now on. The color was spot on perfect and they clean up easily. Mostly though, i have left them bare in the past and just used Gumout spray cans to clean them. It dissolves nasty stains, and leaves them looking brand new. Its also $3 a can...easily the cheapest. HTH, Bobby

I painted mine with POR-15 aluminum engine paint. Bought the smallest can, did the intake, water pump, and AC bracket. Only used a 1/4 of the can.

Dupli-Color

I tried washing my badly stained manifold in the dishwasher which made a mess of it (plus made the dishwasher smell like 94 octane and pls don't tell my wife!). So I hit it with some Dupli-Color AL engine paint and it came out great, would highly recommend, 5K miles and still looks like the day I painted it. This is a mock up shot.

Clear powder coating works well. It will yellow where the heat crossover passages are in the center of the manifold unless you block those off.

I sprayed mine with Rusoleum silver rattle can in 2005 and it still look perfect today after 7 years and 16K miles. I have never washed the engine and it does not leak anything.

When properly prepped and applied, I don't think you can beat POR-15.

I used

that Rustoleum textured paint on my brake calipers and never had an issue with it. It holds up well.
