IRS pin drive rotors

I am in the process of ordering a M IV Roaster, and I am wanting the Irs pin drive rear end. and I also want to run the Trigo 427 knock off wheels. you can only run 11" rotors with these wheels. the question is which rotors do you use and can you use the calipers that come with the irs complete kit or will they need to be changed also.
Thanks,

If you want larger rotors, you can always buy the 17" Halibrands made by Vintage Wheels. For which rotors to use with the IRS pin drive set up, talk to Gordon Levy or the guys at DiscbrakesRUS.com. Both Levy Racing and DiscbrakesRUS have IRS pin drive brake kits.

There are limitations on brake size for 15" wheels, particularly the pin drives. I believe the largest that will fit are the Wilwood 12 or 12.2" set up that Levy Racing sells. Check those out. I am not sure what the largest/best caliper/rotor combination exists using Mustang/thunderbird parts.

Now concerning wheels, the Trigos are 15"...are you set on 15"? They do make 17" halibrand style pin drives. I am not sure what size brakes fit those, but it is an option if you want to go bigger tires.

I really want to run the 15" Trigo wheels. I was hoping that somebody that is running this setup would be able to tell me that I would need the rotors from a particular model and year vehicle and if I would need the same calipers. I will be doing a non donor build.

The 1994-2004 Mustang Cobra Rotors will work just fine. I'm running pin drive with Vintage wheels but they will also work with Triago.

Thanks, Looks like that would be 11" on the front and 10.5" on the rear.
I think that the caliper will be able to be used, I would have to remove the caliper bracket which allows it to work on the 11.65" rotors and move the caliper to the original mounting holes which I think would allow it to work with the 10.5" rotors.
Any thoughts.

You said you're doing a non-donor build, in that case I would look at Wilwood brakes. Levy has this custom kit made for the IRS, it has spot calipers for the parking brake.

12.2″ 4-Piston Rear IRS Street Brake Kit for 99 Cobra Mustang, 89-98 T-bird and Mark VIII

And for the front, you could use something for the Mustang from Wilwood.

Breeze has the right set up for pin drive. I believe they are thunder bird rotors that are re-drilled to 4.5'' bolt centerline. I am using them and they work great, mostly because they are coupled with a 5/8'' master cylinder. If you can afford it go with wilwood brakes from Levy. If not, just get them from breeze, they bolt right up and work great!

Talking

I have the 17" wheels, so I cannot comment on the fitment. But I did change the T-Bird hubs to the Mustang Cobra hubs to retain the same bolt pattern all the way around. It was not expensive or difficult, and makes things easier (IMO). You should do some research on the options and trade offs for this.

There is nothing wrong with the T bird set up, I think the pins can be 5 on 4.5 or 5 on 4.25 so redrilling may not be required, it has been a while since I did a Trigo set up check with them first. The 15s do pose brake issues but they are worth the look. Go power and forget about it.

I am pretty sure our 11.65 kit works with pin drive wheels but not positive. They do not work with regular wheels as the hoop portion is too small that far inboard on the wheel. With the pin drive you are closer to the bead inboard and that I think allows the clearance for the 11.65 set up. HTH, Richard.

Pin drive adapters come in 4.5" and 4.75" bolt pattern. The thunderbird rotors are 4.25".

I spoke with Levy today and he has a Wildwood brake system that will work in place of the Factory Five supplied parts. lot more stopping power and performance.
But as always performance comes with a price.
Thanks to all you guy's for helping me out.
