In NJ you have to submit pictures of the engine, the tranny, the car, the trunk, you name it. I missed the fine print where they also wanted a picture of the serial number on the chassis...I had sent in the damn Certificate of Origin....I thought that was enough..but NOooooo.
So I got the old "your file is incomplete letter". And now they get ANOTHER three weeks to sit on my file until I get my next answer if I can go get an inspection.
Did I mention I hate the DMV?
Well at least thats all they dinged me for. Everything else was in order. I guess thats a small victory.

Bummer, everything about the build process is a learning experience.
I have recently thought about registering my car in FL. I hear it is pretty easy and all I would have to do is fly down for my already planned winter vacation right them a tax check and then I have a titled 65 Roadster. I have heard this will save me some $$$ with insurance company's as well.
Take a photo of the 2x2 bar just above the drivers knees. That should be where the frame number is.

Yeah, I got it. It's just the stupidity of it all. And the fact that they get to jerk me around more now and even blame me for the holdup.

Don't be angry at the system because you failed to read all of the paperwork they sent to you in the "kit car" package.

Hopefully FFR masked the frame off on yours before power coating which makes the stamp much more visible. Mine got PC'd over and it took a number of tries and angles to get the numbers clear in a photo. The stamp on the back of the engine was even more difficult especially since I didn't think to do it until after it was in the car. :-)
Its just time and paperwork, dont let it get to you!!

Yeah, everytime I read a post like this I'm thankful its so easy here in FL. Just the MCO, proof of insurance, invoice for the kit, and your checkbook for title, tax & tags. They don't want to see the car or even pics, and no inspections to title as a '65 replica. There are no inspections here for regular vehicles, either, so I am amazed there are extremely few junkers on the road, at least in my area.
I don't know about titling by someone from out of state, but here's a great thread on the general topic started by Mustang Man, helped quite a few of us here: Easy Steps to Title in Florida. FFR5310RD is Legal!

Not clear about the registering in another state and getting insurance thing. I always thought it was illegal to do that. If so the potential legal ramifications just aren't worth it. God forbid someone has an accident in their home state while registered/insured in another.
MIROSE... thanks for the info on your recent experience. As you know...Ive been following both yours and Jon's experience with our wonderful DMV system hoping to diminish my frustrations when it's my turn. Every little bit helps. Thanks again!!!
The only thing I know for a fact is that the experience is never the same every time someone goes there. While I had a pre-existing title for 2329 all I did was pay roughly $1,800 in taxes and was on my way. But this was before the need for inspections, etc. I understand a lot has changed now.

This started renting space in my head, so I tried to find the posts that I had read about registering in FL and not needing to be a FL resident because of all the snow birds/etc. and now it looks as though my interpretation was incorrect - unless someone can correct me and state that they were successful in getting titled in FL when in fact they are not a FL resident.
Here is one of the posts that I read about flying in, paying some taxes and getting titled. What would you do - DMV issue
Sure do hope I am reading this stuff incorrectly as I had my hopes up for an easy title and registration process. Although, not that it is difficult in MI, just not as easy and I don't want any of the surprises or fine print that mirose has offerred in his OP.
Go to an RV park down south and you'll notice a bunch of South Dakota plated motorhomes.
A couple years ago snowbird buddies sent back a photo of a cobra with SD plates registered in a county with 90% gravel roads. Nope I don't know that car and I doubt if that guy even knows where South Dakota is located let alone that county.

Some people ask the questions and listen to the answers, others only hear part the part of the answer they want to.
Michael knows I do not mean it personally, just trying to add a little levity to the thread.
Now, shouldn't you be working on your slabside, you do know the next Tristate Cobra club breakfast is the 8th of July in Chester, right?

He is just sore because on another post I pointed out that he wasn't correct about the order of doing things in NJ. Its all good... We're even now...

No I won't have it ready by the next breakfast. Give me some slack, I'm old. Should be by Aug. tho.

Yup. Over here it's very easy. I registered mine very quickly when it was still a bare chassis. The MSO wasn't even under my name because I bought it from the original buyer. I got it all done in about an hour.
