Well I was playing around with the idea of headrest for a while now for long rides. So last week end I got the tools out and this is what I came up with. 2 headrest that clip on the roll bar (when we need it) I also added a lexan between the 2 headrest to see what effect this would have on the wind mouvement in the cockpit, the whole system can be remove in 2 min when not needed.. It is a work in progress as you will see but I would like to get your feed back on the idea.
thanks

CobraEarl sells these with a form-fitting back that rests on the contour of the roll bar - I bought one of his and I'm really happy with how it works. Safety while on the road - no risk of my noggin hitting the bar in case of an accident and easily removable for shows.

Well I plan on getting the upholstery done by next week then I will be able to test drive the idea and get you some feed back. I know there are a few solution out there that you can buy out of the box. but for me designing it,building it is a lot more fun and rewarding, this is the way I approached this whole build. My initial impression is it must work since all the roadster (porches, mecedes, etc) have this kind of wind screen between the seats for that specific reason (noise and wind control).
Time will tell

I'm assuming that your goal is improved safety in case of a rear-ender. That head rest needs to be considerably more forward than it is.
Sit in the seat, and tilt your head back. If your nose is more than 30* above the horizon, the head rest won't help very much. To be truly effective, it needs to be at about the same level as the back of the seat.

your right it will at the same time help in safety, on the pics the foam portion of the headrest is not installed (about 2 inchs thick) made out of 2 different density foam (close cell and open cell for comfort). I like your 30 degree nose angle idea kind of a neat way to think about this problem.
thanks

Interested in how the buffeting is reduced also, keep us informed.
Great ingenuity, well done!

On some thread in the past, someone experimented with wind screens. They found that a mesh worked much better than a solid panel. You might try that if the lexan doesn't work. The headrests look like they'll be a great mod. I had the same fear of my roll bars.

Ask your doctor if FFR is right for you.
Well got the headrest and wind screen completed today hopefully I will be able to go and try it out later on the hightway to see if it helps with the wind beffering"""
I will report later on the wind situation.

Well we went for a little spirited run on the highway with m'y son tonight, and thé combination headrest and lexan window does cut down on the buffering quite a bit. To compare I Will need to do a couple more runs with and without the headrest. But first impression is its better!
