Im awaiting the delivery of my rear end from FFR, can I install the gas tank portion of the build and then go back to install my rear end later? will there be any issues in me doing this?

YEP- go forward- no worries--- let me know if your having trouble with the passenger side tank strap... I used a bottle jack with a screw driver to push the tip of the strap into place- worked awesome...after a solid 2 hours of cursing and swearing the strap didnt fit...

I adjusted the filler neck, flattened it a bit, to get clearance.

Thanks. I may see if I can add small spacers on the four spots where the gas tank flange is supposed to touch. Hopefully that doesn't make the straps too hard to put in place.
Make sure the spacers are attached some kind of a way, as you will have to drop the tank several times during the build, to get to the bumper bolts. Chasing spacers will be frustrating. I think flattening the filler tube is just easier, as the straps are hard enough to start without spacers (especially the passenger side)....at least on my build.

I think installing the rear-end would be easier without the gas tank in the way (I'm assuming you are not talking about IRS).
As to the filler tube clearance, I bought some half-round furniture tips from the Sears Hardware store to insert into the square tubing the tank rests on. I did have to trim them a little bit with a Dremel to get them to fit. This bought me about another 1/8 - 1/4" clearance. I also bought longer strap bolts and secured the bolts to the mount with a sleeve and nut, to make mounting the straps easier (yes they are a struggle).
Also, FYI, the trunk aluminum needs to be on BEFORE mounting the PS strap in the back (ask me how I know!)

Personally I would not put the tank in. Assuming the chassie is up on stands or the likes there of, you will need to lift the rear to bolt it in. having the tank in will make getting a hyraulic jack with the rear balanced on it under the chassie more difficult. I had my chassie on dollys. I found it very easy to put the differential on two jack stands and move and position the chassie to the rear. Trying to balance the rear on a hydraulic jack will be a challenge. of course this was for me installing it by myself.
just my opinion and what worked for me.

Luey2009:
Just a thought - Do the Mk 4's have access panels in the trunk floor for the fuel pump and sender? If not you might consider putting something in now - it makes it so much easier when (not if) you need to do something to either one; rather than having to drop the tank. Boat supply stores have 4, 5, 6" + access covers (round or oval) here is one:
