I am looking for pros and cons of using Lizard Skin Ceramic insulation under the carpet.
How much will I need to do the job and where to buy?
Thanks for any input. -- Chuck

You can buy it in eBay, speedway motors or directly from them. This is the route I will be taking also. Two gallons for the cockpit should do it. You will be happy with the results.

Chuck,
I've been driving mine since 08 with bare aluminum cockpit. No heater. From teens to 90's f.
I've been in other mfg. roadsters and street rods. Road noise and insulation differense is minimal at best. If it makes you happy spend it. I'm running a 302 carbed with ceramic FFR 4 into 4 pipes. Wipe and go interior with no mildew from wet carpet.

I have Lizard Skin in my Mk3 and I'm very happy with it. 2 gallons will be plenty. It works exactly as advertised. I have the standard FFR carpet over it. No heat issues with my warmed up 306. Gives the sound dampening to the .040 panels that I wanted. One of the big advantages is ease of installation. Spray on versus cutting and fitting a bunch of pieces. The only downside I can think of is that some consider it overpriced. There are cheaper alternatives, but there are also more expensive. I like it, and would definitely use it again.
The lizard skin products seem to either sound or thermal barriers. Are they actually the same thing? Do they have combo products? I you had to choose one or the other, which one would you choose for these cars?

The ceramic insulation does both things. It is the one to use.
I will also use it under the fenders for rock chips.
Cheers

I used Lizard Skin on my build. I brushed it on as it was easier than setting up a sprayer, masking, etc. If you ask me, it seems exactly like common dirt suspended in a latex base. For all I know this could be exactly what it is.
I'm not convinced that it does much for the car. The carpets alone will provide a degree of heat and noise insulation and real noise insulation is best done on the bottoms of the floor pans, maybe with bed liner.
Also, the real heat comes from leakage around the dash. By contrast the heat transfer to the aluminum panels seems to be minimal.
