Post old style vs new style lower contol arms??

A forum member is selling a pair of old style tubular lower control arms.

What is the difference between old vs new style?

I am currently running the fox controls arms with 15" team III's and pro shocks on MKII. Thinking about Koni's, SN95 spindles, and I would like go to 17" wheels in the future.

Thxs in advance, Jim

The old style may need to be modded for the Koni's. Double check that.

Yep, the old style will need modifying to work with the Konis. Not a big deal if you have a welder, I did mine a couple of years back.

here is a pic of the two w/ the old style on the left

There is better clearance for the bottom eye of the coilover on the new style.

Thanks for all the info. I would think the shock mount hole is in the same place but the bar interferes? Anybody have a picture of the modified version?

What shocks will fit a MKII?

I have the old style FFR MKII front LCAs with Pro Shocks. My LCA's have been modified with heim joints so I don't really want to replace them. I'm thinking about new shocks as a winter project and was wondering what people recommend and what mods I may need to do to make them fit. Thx Scott

Nothing against Koni but FFR could have stuck with Pro Shocks and saved everybody a lot of grief. Send your shocks to Pro Shocks and have them rebuilt if you think there's something wrong with them. About $60 each.

Just so you know, there's more different in the two styles than just the spring mount. The sleeves and bushings on the newer arms are improved. They have a bit longer steel sleeves so that when you tighten the mounts, you're actually tightening against the sleeves and not the bushings. Also the bushings have longitudinal grooves to allow the grease to flow between the bushing and sleeve better.

If the newer style arms are more improved than the older style, and the pro shocks are better, can the older pro shocks fit the newer arms without a lot of trouble?

Pro Shocks are a bolt in on the later arms. The geometry is the same between the early and late arms it's just that the later model arms have extra clearance for shocks where the spring seat (cup) is closer to the shock bolt.
