Does anyone have experience mounting a 295/50 - 15 on the rear of the FFR Halibrand replica wheel and Roadster Mark IV? Suggested tire for this wheel is a 275/50 - 15 but that doesn't seem to be available. Rear axle is 8.8" that is '87 - '93 width.
I'm thinking of putting that exact set-up on my MK-II so I would like to know how they are working on a MK-II with 3-link. 275's are as hard to find as hen's teeth unless you want drag radials.

To run 295s on a MkI or II will take some work. Do a search on the 315 mod.The problem is the diameter more so than the width. OTOH, a couple of friends are helping another friend w/ a MkI and we decided to go w/ 295s anyway. She got a screaming deal on a set of wheels and the rears are 10s so no option to run something like 245 or 255. I had 295s on my MkI and did most of the 315 mod but I ran it low cause i autocross a lot. We are hoping to work it out on my friends car by jacking up the ride height. Figure it will look like one of the oldies. We have spent the last 2 weeks off and on and found no 275s except for drag radials.

Are you sure the suggested size isn't 275/60R15...?
This is what was fitted as standard rubber on my Superformance with 15-inch Halibrands.
Thanks. How do you like those Coopers? I am deciding between those and BF Goodrich.
After driving the BF Goodrich TA's into a concrete barrier when they suddenly (and I mean suddenly!) decided to let go, I would strongly suggest you check into the Coopers. After my incident, I did a search on the BFG's and found little love for their roadholding capabilities. Great wear characteristics, lousy grip. One comment suggested they be labeled, "For Display Purposes Only".

We can't make sweeping comments about how 295s fit vs. 275s. There are some 295s out there (Cooper Cobra is one) where the cross section is actually closer to that of some tires that are labeled 275s. Each brand is slightly different. Moreover, the shape of the shoulder on each brand impacts whether or not the tire may rub.
I have since sold my car, but I had exactly the same setup as JEff K. and it was perfect.

MK2 with PS engineering GT40's, Stock width with drums. 295-50/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A. As mentioned above, rubs barely on hard bumps.
Just wondering about the possibility of having someone take 5mm off the drum mount face to move them inboard just a little bit. That is given there is room elsewhere. I think that would get me no rub except in an extreme case.

I have Coopers on my MKI, 295-50-15 no rub at all with a 4-Link. I went with the coopers because they are a little narrower than most other brands.
