Thought I would share my horn placement,, so others could point out an easier better way to mount them :-) ! I didn't see many posts for the MKIV with the round x tubes. Used some rivnuts and a piece of aluminum and painted it black. Ready for the body to get back from the painter....maybe next week.
Happy Easter!
Ernest

Just an observation. If you want to maximize the effect of your cooling fan, then put a shroud around that radiator. Right now, your fan will only suck air through about 50% of the radiator. You may not need any more cooling depending on your engine build, but if you do, a shroud will allow the fan to suck air through the entire radiator, thus maximizing cooling.

I agree, that was one of those items I looked hard at and never got around to getting. It will probably be easier to install without the body. Maybe another late night order? Thanks for helping separate me from some more money. Posting always costs a few bucks.
Which shroud did you use?

I second the fan shroud motion!!!! Check out Breezes site for theirs, I have one and it works great.
Did you have to lengthen the wires to reach that location? I have the RF harness and it looks like the wires come out near the drivers headlight. Was thinking of mounting them on the 3/4" down tube for the nose support.

I just pulled the green wire (after cutting the connector off) back up through the harness and made it exit at the radiator. I grounded at the horns using the connector that came with the horns.
Ff metal has a nice one ......and the hole is already cut out. But it is double the price.

Thanks for the info, I like your placement and symmetry so I may do the same. As for the shroud, I traced the fan onto the shroud and cut it out with my saber saw with a metal blade. No big deal.

Thanks for posting this picture. I have been looking for the perfect place along with coming up with a mounting idea... i.e. since the cross member is different then all the famous MKI, MKII and MKIII photo's.
Also, I went with the breeze shroud. Cut out the hole and installed in less then an hour on a Sunday morning.

I'm using a compact airhorn and mounted it on the top rail that goes to the driver's side front body mount. I based the mounting location on measurements I took off a friend's car - he mounted the stock donor horns in the same location.
Because of the unique mounting bracket that is integral to the horn assembly, I had to use a small piece of aluminum angle to facilitate the installation. Originally, the angle was just riveted to the down-tube, but I later switched to allen bolts as the weight of the horn seemed as though it would cause the rivets to loosen over time and eventually fail:

what are those brackets sticking out from over the rad on the added 3/4" cross member???
Anywhere you install it it Will be heard, it just becomes an easthetic solution. Mine is just below the X member in the front behind the Radiator. So out of sight.

I faced mine mouth to mouth about 2 inches aparp. You get a nice third note that way. They are 5 incher above the road, (above the chassis rails)which gives you ground plane effect (louder).
