OK, the shoulder on the stub shaft then is in lieu of the heavier c-clip to keep the shafts from going to deep into the pumkin?
Is the smaller wire c-clip supposed to be on the outside end groove to hold the stub shafts from popping out of the bearings?
a picture would be worth a thousand words.

My "complete IRS package" that came with this option on my MKIII order that was upgraded to MKIV, had the CV axles delivered completely assembled, there was one wire type type c-clip on the end of the stub shaft that goes into the pumpkin.
I have worried about this since i put it together as the instructions are vague.
Is there there supposed to be the wire c-clip and the heavier c-clip on the end of the stub shaft that goes into the pumpkin ? i am not on the street as yet.
The way the clips are on the axles from FFR as assembled are correct. Just poke it in the pumpkin and you should be good to go.

If you have a shoulder on the shaft you will be fine, You should have one or the other ends on don's post #41.
Not so. The shaft that fits into the differential does not have a shoulder or a second c-clip. It will have only one clip on the end, it goes into the differential till the hub is almost against the housing. It should click into place.
Don, good info! Can you confirm this is the same problem (short axles) that FFR sent out, and everyone received, the recent spacer fix for?

Didn't bother to take the boots off - can deffinatly feel the lobes through the boot - about 1/4" inside of the cup (in the sprung position). My track width measured exactly to the 58 7/8" (standard width) as specified (sh*t luck!), which is great as I did not want to screw up the alignment. For the record, mine is number 7449, kit picked up in February 2011 and came with the pre-assembled half shafts. The half shafts were back ordered and didn't arrive until around April.

My issue had more to do with my differential being off center. That said, the half shafts (bare) measured 15.5". There were a lot of variables that added to my situation, not the least of which was axle length. In the end I ordered longer axles from DriveShaftShop. They are excellent to work with. I highly recommend them if you need longer axles.
