Here is a spy shot that was just sent to me from Batman in the batcave.
I am not sure if its supposed to show me the progress or if he is holding it for randsome? Still waiting to hear back on that one. LOL.
From what i understand, i think the picture was taken before clear coat. It was also taken from one of those brick looking cell phones that was converted to a camera phone using a poloroid.
With all joking beside, i am WICKED excited and i just know this is going to look amazing. We are going to take a trip down there this weekend to see it in person.
I guess the problem is with the heat and Jeff actually was at the point of cutting and buffing for today, but realized this morning the heat made some slight imperfections on the front clip. he sounded kinda bummed since now he is going to re do the front. Hopefully we can cheer him up this weekend!

Just got back from the cave and all we can say is WOW!! We took some pics, but the colors just dont come out quite right in them. The car looks amazing. He is starting to color sand so there are some pics of the process as its been started. The shiny pictures are with clear coat, but these portions of the car have not been color sanded or buffed yet. We were amazed how good it looked without the color sanding yet. So we cant wait to see it when its all smoothed over.
Looks like we are looking at picking it up mid next week or so!

thanks everyone for the nice comments, but honestly we came to Jeff with an idea of what we wanted and he came up with the great final colors. In the sun we get many different shades of color and it looks amazing. We are going to be very proud of this one!

I forgot to add that we are bringing the chassis to jeff tomorrow night so he can have it for a few days to do what he needs to do. Its going to be very exciting to go pick it up next week.
While its gone, we are going to clean the garage and make sure NOTHING is leaning against ANYTHING that could fall down and hit the car.

Thanks everyone! I really wanted to have another get together when it comes back from paint, but with the temps over 100, I figure it'll have to wait until the end of summer. Guess that'll give us time to finish assembling the majority of the car and hopefully develop a thicker skin. Pretty sure we will be ultra hypersensitive about anything getting anywhere near the fresh new paint. That does go away eventually, right? I was eying the garage yesterday to see what could potentially fall and injure Scoopy. Silly thing is that I can't recall anything ever tipping over, but you just know something will and at the worst time and hit the worst spot. Pleeeeeeease don't let it be my fault!!
The apprehension of something falling still has'nt gone yet for me , and its been over à year!!!

I was afraid of that. Would it look silly driving down the road in a bubble wrapped car? Hee, hee.
I reread my post and it sounds like I don't want people near the car. Not what I meant. I don't want THINGS near the car. People on forum are careful and respectful. People good. Things bad.
We brought the body back from the paint booth on the trailer. The boys were helping me manuver it around to the side yard to store it while we finished up the drive train. As I lifted up the tongue of the trailer and we started pushing it back, I heard this awful scraping sound. Turns out someone removed the clamps holding the buck to the trailer so the rear of the car scraped against the trailer and left a nice 6" scrape along rear fender well.
I found out it helps to get that first scratch out of the way early so you don't worry about it anymore!

I broke a nail! I almost broke my finger, so I'm pleased it turned out so minor. There I was trying to loosen a seatbelt bolt when the wrench flew off the bolt and my itty bitty pinky finger pummeled one of the roll bars. Ouch!!!! I can move it and it seems to be its usual little pink self, so hopefully no major damage.
I know Mike already posted pics of our Batcave experience, but now it's time to share the tale in words. Jeff was kind enough to give up a little chunk of his weekend so we could visit Scoopy's body. Since we wouldn't be able to go as a family during the week (school starting), this was a huge deal to us. We eagerly loaded into the truck and quickly traversed the 20-30 miles to arrive at his doorstep right on time. Yay!
I'm not sure if I was more excited or scared. What if the color was wrong? As soon as my eyes landed on the body, I was in love. The red was red. It wasn't orange or purple or blue red. It was red red. Zombie blood red (pearl). The stripes came out as we had hoped. absolutely gorgeous. Imagine my shock when Jeff pointed out it wasn't even color sanded. How could it look any better??
Jeff explained what happened with the front end the first time (had to redo part of it). The factory rep for the paint people decided it was molecular collapse. I'm not going to pretend to know what that means, but Jeff seemed pretty relieved it didn't happen the second time too. Sounds like the heat did bad things.
It turns out Jeff was going to spend the entire weekend working on our car. He is amazing. I am thankful every single day that he agreed to paint our car. Super yay!
So, the rest of the weekend was spent doing the last minute stuff. According to the weather, the hottest part of the day was at 3:37. It reached exactly 108.0. Guess what time we were loading up the car to go to Jeff's? Could the weather get any worse. Why, yes it could. The kids and I raced out to hop in the truck to go (my face was literally the color of a ripe tomato from the extreme heat and amount of manual labor outdoors). As we approached thunder roared through the canyon. Neat.
We were just pulling onto the freeway when the first raindrop hit. It wasn't your average water splot. It was like mother nature punched the windshield. I haven't seen a fist-sized drop of water for years. Not only did one plummet to the earth, but dozens. The sky was pretty clear, so it was rather confusing as to where the rain was originating. The freeway ahead looked sunny. The next exit wasn't for a few miles and there was no place to stop for cover. I stared helplessly as poor Scoopy was pounded by rain. One of the kids said it looked like snow. What? I looked in the side mirror and saw that the rain did look kinda white. Odd. Smack, smack. Hail? Really? Holy cannoli. It was hailing. Still no dry safe place to pull off. Fortunately, the storm only lasted for a couple miles. So much for not driving in the rain. On the way home, though, Alyssa got a text on her phone saying there was a tornado warning issued for our area. What? A tornado in so cal? It never hit.
We got to Jeff's to drop off the chassis. When I walked in, there was another car and a body. I assumed the body belonged to the other customer and I was super jealous. Wait, that's mine!! The color sanding did make it better. I can't express how happy I am and how much I love the car. No wonder Jeff has been doing this so long. He's a miracle worker with these cars. Better get your car painted by him before he decides to stop painting.
Everyone is eating dinner, so I'm going to go join them. I will try to update again with details of what we worked on later.
Here are some pictures from this weekends progress.
One thing i did that julie will probably forget is fabricate a manifold for the heater hoses. Our heater hoses will run UNDER the engine so I welded some mounts to the engine mount and made some tubes with JIC ends that will connect to the hoses on either side. Should be pretty slick.
Also, note the mini cobra. This is going to be painted like our full size one and goes on a RC model that has a running v8 engine in it!

last batch. And the last pic... it makes me sad. When ever you go out into the garage and find this, its a sad day. But scoopy will be back soon. Now we can clean up the place to welcome scoopy back!
