Sounds like they have more than 1 truck then. My car was completed 10/8 and its on the road. Just talked to Stewart and the truck is in Phoenix getting routine maintenance. Should be leaving later today or early Friday, they're going to call me back once the driver gets in later today.
Very strange. Your car was picked up already and it was completed 10/8? They told me that my truck is in Phoenix for DOT violations/maintenance and had left already for FFR!

Yep, completed 10/8. It's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow at 3 pm, might get pushed back to Saturday though. Looks like they might have a west coast and east coast truck or something.

As much fun as dreaming about building the car is - obviously it is a thrill when you place your order! I have read a lot about the problems with Stewart. I can imagine the frustration when you are waiting for the dream to come next Wednesday - it passes you call - and maybe they even answer the telephone - then you find out they have not even arrived at FFR yet!
This is an option - saves lots of money and of course it is one more adventure to the whole process. 2 things are required - a vehicle to tow - truck or large SUV or a step van sized truck.
How far do you want to drive?
I would guess that 20-30% of the country is within a twelve hour drive from FFR.
My story:
I ordered my car at the factory on 7/14/2011. I had schedule for it to be ready in the 3rd week of November (needed time to raise the money). When I flew home that night - I was thinking the end of August I was going to turn 55 - what nice gift to myself. So I arranged for the kit to be ready in the 3 rd week of August. I live in Maryland. That week I was taking my last son to Syracuse University to start the 4 best years of his life. I checked the map and figure it was a 6 hour drive from Syracuse to Wareham MA. I looked up U-Haul and checked out their car haulers. THEY HAVE A LOCATION 1/4 OF A MILE FROM FFR! I arranged for a one way trailer - to MD - for 3 days the total cost was $141.00. I went to the nearest U-Haul location and measure the trailer. I built 2 dollies with casters to cross the open space of the trailer.
My older son wanted to go to Syracuse when we dropped his brother off - as he graduated from there last May.
The trip began - we left Syracuse and drove to Framingham to pick up the rear end from Mike Forte (great guy!). Checked into a hotel - Mike is 1 hour north of FFR. The next morning we picked up the trailer went to FFR loaded the kit. I have a Tahoe - with the seats down - I could load 60% of the boxes. 2 or 3 went inside the Cobra and the other 4 Mounted on the roof.
We made an adventure out of it! Left FFR at 11:00 - back home by 7:00 PM.
With the dollies - he and I just rolled the car of the trailer and into the reptile house (garage). Total cost - $100.00 for the hotel, junk food on the highway, 2 tanks of gas (1 way) and $141.00 for the trailer!
A whole lot less than Stewart - and I could control what happened - getting the car when you want it.
As I was writing - I was thinking - if you do not have the room for all the boxes but can tow the trailer - I would imagine it cannot cost that much to have the shipped to your location via UPS of Fedex.
I met another person who is building FFR MKIV - who lives close to me. He had a friend who has a Box truck - 18 to 20 ft interior length - so they just drove that up to FFR.
You can also rent them from Budget, U-Haul, Penske, etc. You can do it one-way. Flights into Providence, RI are cheap via Southwest. FFR is 1 hour from the airport. So you find the truck in Providence and drive to FFR.
Make it and adventure - it is part of the build process!
Before I built my first car I expressed concern about the backorders from FFR that I had heard about. I thought it was a really big deal. Others told me "don't worry about it, it's ok". Now when I think back to that it makes me chuckle at myself.
Those of you building your first one... you will quickly be browbeaten by the kit into what a realistic timeline means in terms of getting from A to B. Every bit of this will take longer than you think, cost more than you think, and will make you more frustrated than you think, at times. It's worth it. Don't go getting yourself worked up over the small stuff. Stewart will get it to you.
Soon enough you'll be standing in the garage wondering what the hell to do next.
If you think FFR is bad, I ordered my Kirkham last August (2010) and was told it would be to me in March 2011. I received it in July 2011. The wait was painful, but now long forgotten (well, until you made me remember!).

Just wanted to share that I had a great experience with Stewart! I had Bob deliver mine he was super great and helped a ton with the unload and placement of my car on my goofy lift setup.
Mine was delivered last month and I would defiantly order from them again!
I am in the same boat. My car was completed on 10/8 also and I got a similar response from them. It is very frustrating. I understand delays happen but they should provide better customer service-like picking up the phone and giving us a progress report.
The latest news is that their truck should be at FFR this Monday 10/24.
I have been using the extra time to organize my garage/read the manual. Trying to turn a negative into a positive.
I tried to cal Stewart and nobody answered the phone (what a surprise!). Then called FFR and I was told that Stewart will pick up Tuesday 10-25-11. Company that really “stand behind their word”.
Got a phone call today, about noon, driver told me that he was leaving FFR and should be in IL on Sunday. Can't wait
When Stewart shows up, you'll understand why you don't need to use "some other company". Remember this thread, then come back and read it in a year, when your car still isn't done.

Well put! I've just had my kit for a month or so - and am way behind where I thought I'd be by now. Waiting for the powdercoater, waiting for non-FFR stuff that I could have/should have ordered long before the kit arrived - cleco's, heater, Sharkhide for non-visible panels, etc have all finally arrived. I'm learning that in spite of best intentions, "waiting" for stuff is part of a build.
And by the way - I had NO FFR backorders. Which is I understand, a positive change from the old days - when builders were getting "Christmas packages" for weeks/months after Stewart's delivery. Kudo's to FFR for their hardwork and improved systems!!
Any delays in delivery (and they were NOT an issue for me) have been long ago forgotten!
Just enjoy your build.
I am enjoying mine.

Just an FYI, I visited FFR yesterday and Stewart was loading the truck at about 2:30pm. They told me that another truck had just left also, so not sure which one had your car. Sounds like your adventure is about to begin!
My car must be on the same truck as yours as the driver (Bill) called and said he would be in Illinois on Sunday and should be to ohio late sunday afternoon or early evening. My car was not supposed to be completed until the 29 Oct so I was surprised to hear from the driver that soon. Good Luck

Yes. We are all on the same truck. Stewart told me I am number 8, and that there is someone in North Carolina who is right before me before he heads to Florida.
To me that was the best part. After the "euphoric feeling" of having the kit in my garage wore off, I received packages every few days for a couple of weeks, it was like a continuous Christmas for a while, so relax and enjoy it all. Good Luck with your builds.

based on this info, looks like they were giving us a lot of BS about trailer issues, truck problems and etc. They were waiting to fill the trailer with kits like 306rangerfordguy's kit. That's perfectly fine, I wouldn't run half empty trailer across US, but I wouldn't lie to my customers either.
Anyway, I talked to the driver this morning (10am) he was on his way to second customer in MI and then to IL. I'm hoping to see him at my house between 5 and 7pm tonight.

Cynical is one thing, but I'll bet you won't believe they got caught in a snow storm either this weekend

There are a lot of cobra guys down your way. Shoot me your email and I'll let you know how to get on a group email list for catching up with local guys.

If you are going to be this cynical about the whole build, why bother?

Great! Congratulations on delivery. How did it go?
How many were in front of mine? Thanks for the update.
I read mixed reviews about Stewart transportation before I placed an order for the kit, but still decided to use their service…. I wish I didn’t, I would be working on my car right now instead of trying to reach somebody at Stewart Transportation.
10/08 completion data
10/01 called Stewart to set up pickup, I was told that it will be picked up on 10/10
10/07 called to make sure they will pick it up on 10/10, I was told that it will be picked up on 10/12, due to drivers vacations
10/12 called Stewart, I was told kit will be picked up on 10/14, still driver issue
10/14 called and was told that they have trailer issue and it needs to be fixed due to DOT inspection, new pick up date 10/19
10/18, 10/19 and 10/20 nobody answers the phone at Stewart. Called FFR, nobody from Stewart showed up yet
I don’t care about wait time, just don’t lie to your customer.
How do you know they were lying? Strong allegations without any proof

Well my roadster #7900 was delivered last week by Stewart. The driver called and told me I could call him back to check on his progress. He told me on Monday that he would deliver on Thursday. Well low and behold he shows up on Wed. The only problem with that is the car was being delivered to a buddy's shop about 2 1/2 hours from me. Long story short I didn't have enough notice to take off work and be there for the big event. I was looking foward to being there to accept the delivery but my buddies took good care of it for me. They had to really go the extra mile because the winch on the truck was broken and they had to get it off the hard way (man power). I am not bitchin just relaying the facts of the event.
So anyway you guys have some new rookie builders to put up with, myself and partner and best friend Cobra Jon.
So now our adventure begins.....
I have seen tips posted from $60 - $100. Sometimes baked goods or even dinner.
I did not have a pleasant experience. My driver was impatient and unpleasant. He scratched both my Frame and my Body. I would rate him as no better than some of the Fedex guys you hear about out there.
I still tipped him because I read it was customary.
My thoughts on the matter in hind sight would be as follows.
If you delivery goes well and the driver goes above and beyond to the point where you can not wipe the smile off your face then tip accordingly.
If you are left feeling like the guy did not give a rats ass about you and your project then tip him accordingly and call Collin Stewart. He wont call you back but at least you can vent a little.
These guys have a difficult job but it is a job and they earn a wage like everybody else. In 25 years I have never received a tip as an electrician and I do my best to make sure I leave a smile on my customers faces.
When was the last time you got a tip for a job well done?
