One thing I've learned over the years is that headers are NEVER plug and play. They always require some kind of tweaking to get things to fit. These look pretty nice and certainly fills a huge need. Looking at all those welded up short sections though begs the question, now that the prototype has been built, how come no one piece mandrel bent tubes? Do they have any plans along those lines? Just wondering.

I wanted to give an update about these headers. With the body mounted the drivers side flange just starts to stick out of the body a bit. On the passenger side, its fine. BUT both sides sure would benifit from being 1" shorter as the sidepipes stick out away from the body too much in my opinion.

Still happy with the headers, but they would be nicer without those two problems.

I am wondering if anyone else has mounted thier body yet and experienced this?

Have you installed the elephant ears yet? Are your new headers longer than the FFR supplied headers?

I have not put the ears in. But i did test them the other day and they do not push the body out at all. As I assumed... Jeff knows exaclty where to mount these bodies onto the chassis to make room for the ears. I will take some pics and post. Its not horrible, but bugs me a bit.

I dont know if they are the same length or not. I sold my headers a long time ago. I could post measurements.

Stainless Headers

Mike

Pictures would be great.

If you can get measurements I will compare them with my stock FFR headers. Might help answer some questions.

Interesting. I have the same motor and headers and the flange is well inside the body.

Difference may be that you have a MkIII and QSL has a MkIV.

Measurement taken from the outside of the flange up to the header flange. 19-1/2" on passenger side and 21-1/4" on the driver side.

Here are a couple pics.

Header Measurements

Mike

If no one beats me to it I will get my headers out tomorrow. I think your measurements are pretty standard from what I remember though.

I hate to bring this up again but are you sure that your elephant ears with the bulb seal will not bring the body out a little more. Seems like I read about the same issue a while back and that is what it ended up being.

On your second picture you can see that the body is further in near the wheel well in front of your header/flange. If it were straight with the rest of the body I think the flange would tuck right in. Might be an optical illusion though.

I think it would bother me if my flange ended up partially outside of the body.

I have pulled on that wheel well to see if it would go over the flange and it wont.

QSL: did you figure out what was going on with the fitment issue you had? Or did you live with it?

Going to fix. Have new flanges on the way. Going to cut the ones off the headers and move them back.

i also wanted to add that Stainless headers was pretty concerned my fitment was not perfect. He is even sending the flanges at no charge so i can fix it. Thats pretty cool in my book. I dont think its going to be a hard project. Plus at the same time, i can custom fit it so i dont need the wedges i have in there now.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I am considering the same engine as yours (keep changing my mind...) and I would get headers from them so it's very good to know they were on top of it.

Total project time was just over 7hrs. It did take a little more time then I thought. Primarily because we had to install and remove everything 5 or so times per side to get it just right. Had to cut the body too for the new fitment. I still need to clean it all up and install the exhaust for the last time as the pics you see are just tack welded together.

Drivers side removed 1.20 and passenger was .75 However that is a pretty tight fit to the side of the body. If i were to order the headers again, i would ask for the drivers side to be .95 shorter and the passenger .50 shorter. That should put them in a real good spot.

I would be very interested to hear if the OP had fitment issues when the body was put on and completed?

Hope this helps anyone !!

You must be pretty good with the tig to take that on.

I want to add that Stage 8 locking bolts dont work with this setup. Stainless headers uses a extra thick flange. That with these bolts makes it so you cant get a socket on the sparkplug unless you remove the lock, clip AND bolt!
