Not this week but recently

got a new dash and new Smith's electric gauges. I have provided a before and after picture. We re cut a new dash as the old dash basically fell apart when it was removed. This one is 3 times thicker. The old dash used mostly donor gauges and a few VDO gauges. All wiring behind the dash was also re done. The picture on the left is the old dash.

Wow, this thread has been dead for over a month?

Allow me to resurrect it.

Started installing my switches and turn signal yesterday and finished them this morning, now comes the fun part, wiring them. I removed the two smaller gauges to the left of the steering wheel so the turn signal would be easier to work and avoid tearing up a wire.

btw, what's the best location for each of the smaller gauges? I think I had water and oil temp behind the steering wheel, but may change them out based on feedback.

Well it wasn't today but every year I have a Kentucky Derby party and I pick up the keg of beer with my Cobra. If you think you get looks driving your Cobra on a regular day try this.

I thought I would bring this back to the top...

Finally have time to fix some little things. I shortened up the front quickjacks. I cut off about 1 1/4 inches and think it is a big improvement.

I also installed some small LED lights under the dash. These are white LED's. I wired them up to the headlight switch, and they work great.

Time to start thinking about a grab bar and a trunk prop.

Swapped the tweaked Holley vacuum 570 for a Holley 600DP out of the box. It's a keeper. Even better fuel economy (24.4 mpg) than the 570 (23mpg) on the same 90 mile mixed driving route (city, 70 mpg interstate and 45 mph mountains). The best part is the low rpm and midrange driveablity is crisper and the WOT slams hard at the drop of the foot. Wideband confirms economical cruising in 4th and 5th between 15" and 7" of vacuum at 13.6 - 14.7 AFR. WOT is too rich at 10.5 - 11.1 AFR so I will lean the secondary 2 jet sizes and re-test. She starts with no pedal and idles at 850 rpm. She pulls from 1200 rpm using moderate throttle in 5th with no stumbles at 13.6 AFR.

Got the final wiring done, low/hi beams, parking lights, brake lights, flashers and finally the turn signals.

If all goes well, going for inspection this week.

Finally got rid of that DAMNED belt squeal.

Threw in the towel, added a second pulley on the crank for the alternator drive only, 5.5" Diameter vs 4" for the Water Pump & PS.

So nice & quiet to start it without that squeal. Never again will I buy aluminum pulleys.

First Start today!

I got a bad squeal from the belt that I need to fix, but I think that will be resolved when I install the power steering pump and get rid of the idler pulley. For whatever reason, the firing order was seriously wrong on the cap from when I bought the motor, but a quick check on the internet and we had it resolved. It sounds really good now and I couldn't be happier.

BIG THANKS to Rich GRSC for his wiring help and getting me thru the first start.

New Starter From Breeze

New PMGR starter from Breeze, much nicer that the old stock unit, even sounds better. Needed a bit of rewiring but no biggie. Should fix my hot start issues. Thx Mark!

Finally added the final section of oil cooler ducting, now a fully ducted system from front body opening to oil cooler located under the "X" brace. Also added two strakes on the front spoiler and body to help deflect air into the opening. Last track day in a few weeks, will see if this helps pull the oil temps down quicker.

Those are peep mirrors from speedwaymotors.com They come in 3" and 4" dia. and they were less than 20 bucks a piece. I've used them on other projects.

Thanks for the opening comment!

Drove it.

A few of us went for a drive to see the fall leaves. We didn't have to go far, but we did anyway. Here are a few pics Courtesy of Gary H. and Diana H.

Man I love this car!
