Cobra Earl's Trunk Mod

Does anyone have any experience with Cobra Earl's trunk mod? Does it affect the structural integrity of the chassis? Is it a good thing, or a bad thing?

Den

Den, the concensus seems to be that the structural integrity is a non-issue (the area is crumple zone). Beefing it up too much would be a mistake.

The tubing that you cut out is not an issue as stated by Mike, but CE does add some tubing to support the bottom and string across front to back to try and put back in what you are loosing in a way.
Clear as mud.

It's a great mod, allowing you to carry a LOT of stuff if necessary. Cobra Earl is a straight-up guy, the kit is good value for the money, instructions are clear and pictures plentiful. Do it; you will like it a lot. Photos of my installation are at the site next to my signature, if you'd like to see. Good luck, HTH.

Icon21 Side question...

John...great pictures. I'll be installing the 'AC' pedals in a month. How did you modify the pedal shafts. I see a few bolts. I also have Mike's accelerator pedal. Very nice build; looks like you had a bit of fun. Thanks Walt

Den, we highly recommend it. BEST mod that we did to 3175 to allow us to do the traveling that we do. Good Luck with your decision.

I think it is one of the better mods I did to my car. Overnighters are easy and carrying a few required tools does not take up all the space. The dropped area also keeps things in place and prevents a lot of sliding during hard turns, hard acceleration or hard braking. Get the carpet kit to really keep things in place.

Next to the Darkwater Dead Pedal and Breeze "battery in the engine compartment", probably the best mod I did.
