GT 40 Counseling

Why do I want a GT 40 so bad? I have my roadster and I am in love with the car I go out and if I did not drive the car that day I look at it in the garage at least once a day. I have had it for over 3 years now and it is not stoping. But I still love the GT 40 I would not trade my cobra for a GT but I need to have one. Why? it is like wanting to eat something when you are really hungry, your mouth waters. The only draw back, price so I am thinking about building one from scratch, the only problem is the fiberglass body.
Any thoughts?

If you can afford a GT40 by selling your Cobra do it! Got my SPF Gt40 4 years ago and love it. Hands down the most outrageous car to drive on the road. Like you if I can't drive my car every day at least I look at it or sit in it. Only annoying thing is all the kooks on the road trying to take phone pics as they're next to you. They are expensive, but a whole step up from a Cobra.

GT40 search

I for one really love my Coupe out on the open road but enjoy driving in town with the Roadster even more.
In a few more years when the Gt40 is on the road it should be fun to decide which one to play with....
For the body check on the GT40S forum and do a search as there are many different options...

I know exactly why you love the GT40... check out my post in "Other cars" (sorry, forgot there was a GT40 area):

GT-40 rendered in AutoDesk Maya

However, since FFR didn't offer a GT40, I was pining for the Daytona but stepping back and look at all 3, I would agree, the GT-40 replica would have been a great project. Chassis-wise, I didn't see it any more difficult than a roadster, but body-wise, it's much more complicated.

My body couldn't handle another build, although my mind tells me otherwise. I would probably go SPF roller route but would still want to build up the engine myself.

Smile Gt 40

Holland I know how you feel.

I have a Cobra with 34,000 miles on it and it's not for sale.
I found a GT 40 for sale in Dec of 2010 and was able to buy it. I'm still working on it but should have it on the road in late fall. I hope.

When I get my GT 40 on the road maybe I can give you a ride. I plan on making a few road trip in it. Maybe we can cure the itch or maybe you will just have to buy one.
It's a different car!

Dwight

Icon15 My GT40

Holland,
My GT40 is a custom build by Jim Dunham. Who made his own steel monocue tub.
There is a long ways to go before completion, but it will be a very fun ride when done.
Below are a few pictures of when Jim was building the chassis at his shop in Michigan.
And the last one is the GT40 at my shop in Maine.
Regards,
Mark

That is a beautiful work of art!

Another RCR owner

Randy,
I am glad you are out of room, but my wife may think otherwise.

I see from Your GT-forty page you are also an RCR owner.
Have you completed your GT40?

Your website is a wealth of information.

Fran does have some really nice products.

I am in hopes to start on my RCR70 this comming winter and follow it with the GT40 the next winter, unless my Daytona sells then another Daytona would be built first.
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

After having sat untouched for a bit more than a year, bodywork is underway..
I have been exceedingly busy with my job and the total (including foundation) of my almost 100 year old house so I can sell it.
I will be getting back onto the GT40 this summer and hopefully can find the time to update my website as well.

I almost pulled the trigger on the T70 before I made up my mind on the GT40..

Looks like we have the same taste in cars!

Gt40/Lola T70MK3B

Randy,
I do understand the total rebuild of a house as the second most time consuming event a man can do. Next only to keeping peace in the household after purchasing a few too many replicas that need to be built.
Looking forward to the updates on your web site as I was wondering why there was no progress but do understand the order of prioritys.
Good luck on selling your house in this market.
Glad to hear that others have the same taste in cars.
I really love the looks of the old can am cars but just could not pass on the quality of build that Jim had done on the GT40.
Regars,
Mark

Mistake!

I should have NEVER peeked at this page! I have an absolutely beautiful roadster with only 4000 miles on it. Finished it in 2010. Whitby did the final body and paint and it is show quality (BMW deep blue...looks black).

I am goin to have to consider building a Daytona Coupe or GT40 (better yet).

I am not sure that I can afford this nonsense, but I am now dreaming. Can't sell the roadster. Can't do it. Did all the pedal conversions this winter and it makes a HUGE difference in appearance as well as drivability. Awesome.

If you really want to be tempted check out the GT40S.com forum
There are some really good build logs and sometimes a few good deals on used GT40s.
The cost is a lot more but so is the resale value.
Also, have you checked out Randy's web page? http://www.GT-FORTY.com
Regards,
Mark
