anyone not use padding on their dash

has any one made their dash with out padding? I was wondering if ERA uses padding on their dash...they always look great! I like it when the gauges don't compress the foam...any ideas?

Are you still intending to use the vinyl, just without padding? Or are you talking about other dash alternatives? A lot of guys have done wood. One of our guys here in Doo Dah engine-turned the aluminum and left the vinyl off completely. It looks great but I don't know how he keeps from being blinded by the sun's reflection!

Just replaced my dash this past spring and did not use any padding. There's a pic in my profile if you're
interested.

Used the 3M spray adhesive on the flat surface and Weldwood on all the opening and edges.

My first dash was black-anodized aluminum. Later, because of a misunderstanding, the dash got covered in black vinyl. I don't like it because I don't care for the vinyl look. The next time the body comes off I am going back to the anodized aluminum.
Perhaps you can get a leather grain pattern embossed on the aluminum and then anodize it.

Polyester Felt

I didn't like the look of the padded dash so I remove the foam from the back of the dash leather and replaced it with a polyester felt material I picked up at Joann Fabrics. It provides a little bit of padding; but not the spongy foam look.
