33 motor sabotage!!!

So fellas hows things? I brought my 33 in for paint a few weeks ago. The guy laid down a pretty good paint job but someone around the shop dropped a drywall screw down my carb! I had no idea until I tried to start the car for its maiden cruise. Boy oh boy it sounded like there was a guy in there banging the side of the block. Needless to say it didn't sound good. I removed the plugs to take a peak inside the cylinders. I got to the last one as spotted the metal inside. We removed the heads and believe it or not no bad damage. The cylinders are clean nd smooth but the top of one piston is a bit pitted from the screw. I removed all the metal from the engine adjusted the valves and hit the road like it never happened. I really dodged the bullet on that one, huh?

Glad to hear you got away without much damage. And stuff like this is exactly why I hate to let other people work on my vehicles...

Man ...just re-lived a painful moment from 25 years ago. ....a "friend" was helping me drop a fresh 400 in my 67 firebird ....while installing the carb a bolt found its way into the intake. Fast forward...start her up and clank, clank , clank.... **()&)(*)) - complete engine teardown (in my case it messed up a bunch of stuff) . My lesson learned.... keep track of all bolts around open engine....

Sorry to hear about this - I'd be pissed !!

I had a vent tube fall out of my Holley 650DP at an autocross. In between runs I started the car and heard a noise while getting ready to get back into line. The vent tube broke into pieces I figure in the first cylinder and bounced parts back into the intake and dinged up 3 other pistons and associated areas of the cylinder head (dual plane shared ports). I removed the pistons and cleaned them up and milled the heads. I checked the other vent tube and it was loose. Made a replacement and epoxied both in. So check them. Still running strong.

Unless the epoxy comes apart and the engin breathes in a screen! Ive seen some guys epoxy screens into the lifter valleys before but never in an intake. Good luck... I'm gonna keep as much extra metal out of this engine as I can from now on...
