Maybe exhaust pipe(s) tapping the frame? I think I heard something like that during my go-karting. The clearance between the pipes and the frame is very close.

My $.02.

Mine does it mostly when I back up and in my case, it's the differential.

thump

I get some in mine. I can feel it underneath me. It is the Exhaust tapping frame. Only under hard load.

If you can hear clicks, clacks, knocks or thumps, you have way too much muffler or not enough horsepower!

Sorry, not very helpful, but I couldn't avoid responding...

thump/clang

Mine does the same, from reverse to forward the slack in the ring gear and axle splines. If you load out the slack one direction then go the other, I get a sound almost like hitting the ring gear with a hammer, a clunk/clang sound that does not sound good, but I just figured it was the solid mounted rear diff.
