how does a throttle cable break?

I took my hood off today to install my new Quick latch ( thanks Tim for the info) and i noticed my throttle cable housing from ffr was cracked and the jam but was hanging by the cable and part of the threads from the housing were still attached....

Anyone have a throttle cable they are not going to use?>

Lokar sells a kit for 40 bucks but i am not sure how that will work exactly with my setup

Throttle Cable

I ditched the FFR cable and ordered one from Lokar. It's a much better cable and it fit my application well. 302 with Holly 4 barrel.

Not familiar with the 33, but myself and a lot of the roadster guys have done a mechanical linkage. Is it feasible on the 33?

I have a mechanical linkage that you can see on my build page. If you elect to stay with the cable, I probably have one and can send it to you Ben.

BTW, the universal Lokar unit works really well. Don't buy the stainless housing one though, they tend to melt and don't work as well. If you do a search on the Cobra side of things, you will find several comments to that result.

Throttle Stop

The cable should only have the tension of the throttle blade and spring. If you don't have a throttle pedal stop you are putting a lot of pressure on the cable when you go to wide open throttle.

Look at this - Bent throttle pedal mount

ru is "spot on". You need a throttle stop at the pedal if you don't have one.

I don't have a pedal stop. But this broke at the jam nut threads. I just looked at the universal lokar kit how does the stainless melt what kit would you guys recommend?

Not sure if the teflon liner between the black one and the stainless is different or what. Do a search on the Cobra side for Lokar throttle cable and you'll find that most agree not to use the stainless housing variety.

The universal one comes in several lengths and can be shortened. It's pretty simple to see how it all goes together when you have it in your hand. I have used it on three builds now with no problems.

Did the jam nut actually crack, or did the cable "saw" through it?
