There are getting to be many amazing finished 33s!
I would like to see them all.
Sure would be fun to have a get together with as many
as possible. The only problem is that we are scattered
across the entire nation. Any ideas?
I've been to the LCS a bunch of times with my old Roadster. I would be a maybe with the '33. The organizers aren't too receptive to cars other than C-car replicas, Coupes or GT-40s. We would have to stay on the fringe and would not be welcomed in the "parade" in to London. The organizers would also not let you park amongst the C-cars in London. Henry has parked his '33 with the FFR display. We really wouldn't be able to all do that.
It really doesn't make sense why the event isn't opened up a bit as attendance to the event is nowhere near where it once was.

If you want it in the middle of the country, I would vote for Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio, TX. The West Coast and East Coast folks would have almost equal amount of travel distance. Just a thought.
I like the idea, but would want it to be an event worth driving too. I wouldn't find a lot of interest of looking at a bunch of cobras, because it's not my cup of tea. As far as centralized I would think you'd want to look at either Iowa or Missouri. As far as events the Good Guys have an event in Des Moines, IA and the NSRA has an event in Springfield, MO.
Haha, I'm subscribing. We had plans to go to NSRA in Louisville but my wife has a business trip that's overlapping. That's been a big let down but what are you gonna do. I would be interested in a get together but might not have a car ready. I would think the under construction guys would be as ready to attend as anyone else.
I think we came pretty close with the FFR open house and the HB cruise. I agree it might be a good idea to pick a bigger show to agree on attending (As much as I like all you guys, I don't think I could travel 1500 miles to meet up with only 5-10 other hot rods ). Might also consider a couple of regional events. Since there are finished cars from coast to coast, it's going to be a big challenge to make it a reasonable trip for everyone. I'd be up for NSRA Nats in '13. That's about an 18 hour ride, but doable. I'd rather make it a Goodguys event like Columbus (almost went this last weekend but it didn't workout) as there is more diversity and autocross.
Great idea though, maybe we can get something going for next year.
What a great idea. Was going to make the FFR Open House, but the car wasn't ready for the 1,400 mile drive. If wasn't ready for a 14 mile drive either on June 9. Maybe next year.
If you want the middle of the country, KC is your place. We have the Goodguys Mid-Western Nationals the first weekend of September.
I also don't mind driving a ways either. Got the NSRA Streed Rod Nationals in Louisville 2013 on the calendar. And if you want things to do, head on down to Super Summer Cruise in Branson, the second week in August. I'll be going there next month. Or the Magic Dragon Street Meet the first weekend in May at the Lake of the Ozarks, Bagnell Dam. That too is on the 2013 calendar.
Although I don't have a '33 yet, I'd be interested in attending a large gathering. The Iowa Goodguys event would be a great central location, and like Arrowhead said, they have an autocross event.
Huntington beach had a few cool cars this year, and I think I got 20 pictures of each one, I'm looking forward to seeing even more '33's in the future.
If only my lottery numbers would hit, I might just have a car ready in time for all the shows next year. And enough money for a cross-country roadtrip to hit them all.

Let's keep the idea going.
I like the idea of the KC Goodguys, lots of room for the 33's and other cars to admire as well.
3 link, 3.31 Moser Trac Lok, Quick Fuel Q750, FRP 427, Edelbrock Victor Jr intake, MSD, Vintage Air Front Runner, FRP Z head ceramic headers, Tremec 600 .82.
It does not get any better than NSRA Nationals in Louisville. Not so sure about the equa distance thing , but douable for a guy in Florida.
Great though and in my opinion there would be a lot of interested builders willing to make the challange an event if put together with the right people within out Forum.
All the suggestions are great! I would definitely want to go somewhere we are welcomed, so the Iowa, KC and Louisville all seem like good possibilities for 2013. So maybe the next question to ask is if anyone has good connections to any of these events?
Pretty quiet on this thread. Still think ksuhre has a great idea of a gathering of '33s.
Today I'm headed to the GoodGuys Mid-Western Nationals with Sapphire Trance, or at least that's the plan unless the remnants of Isaac send a wall of water our way. I've attended this event several times as a spectator, so should be interesting as a participant. I'll let you know my reaction after the weekend is over.
Hi Tim,
Thanks for keeping the thread alive. I am a week away from heading to Hot Rod Drag Week with my '33. If I don't blow it up like last year, I will be at the all the tracks listed in the link below. If anyone with a '33 can make it, I would enjoy seeing them and their car.

Keep the weekend of April 28th 2013 open. We're going to be adding an Autocross/Time Trail to the Huntington beach show this year and making a full weekend event with a cookout, auto museum tour, etc. We're even working on getting Main Street closed in one of the best surf cities in the US which is a big deal. I know it's a long way but we'll be sure to make it worth the effort! Anyone who wants to fly out can drive my car at the event.

Heartland Park Topeka is VERY central and has both a 1/4 mile drag and a 2.2 mile road course. That's the hat trick for a central meet.
AND
TD mentioned several other local events, If we could get close to schedule with Goodguys, or one of the other big events like HPT Nationals
Branson show, Greasarama, Drag week etc. it would be a better road trip for everyone

Actually Erik, after all the great reporting of this year's event, have seriously considered making the drive in Sapphire Trance next year. Only 1,631 miles per Google maps, one way.
Yesterday was a rain out, at least for me, and it is still raining this morning with a forecast of the remnants of Isaac moving away from KC later this afternoon. So it looks like tomorrow will be the only good day for a show 'n shine event. Keeping my fingers crossed.
The rain in KC finally ended at the house at 2:30 on Saturday, September 2. I'm about 1/2 hours drive from the KS Speedway, so decided to pass. Received a total of 6.26" of rain. But awoke to beautiful weather for the last day of the GoodGuys Mid-Western Nationals.
Since I had pre-registered and picked up my packet on Friday in the family car, and not the '33, I was able to drive right into the show car parking area. No big deal at all. Arrived around 8:45 and things were just getting started. Here is the view at 9am.
You can see Sapphire Trance down front. And here's what it looked like at 10:45am.
Because the Speedway is undergoing a makeover, the even was moved out to the area in front of the Grandstand where the spectators go through the turnstiles. Those that were selected as award winners parked under the grandstand where it was shady and cool. They had one area set aside for various categories like Deuces and Hand-Built. All the other cars on display were parked in a parking lot you see above. Getting there early afforded me the opportunity to park on the parameter with some shade available from a vendor's 18-wheeler.
They also ran the autocross which I believe is typical of a GoodGuys event. Had a new vette crash into a concrete barrier which made things interesting.
There were around 1,400 cars registered, which included the Sunday entry of all cars made in America.
The one thing missed this year was running the cars on the Speedway track because of the renovation. But it is understood they will bring back that feature to the 2013 event. It will also be nice to get back to the infield next year where there is more opportunity for grass and some shade, just not one big piece of asphalt.
I haven't been to other GoodGuys events, but in reading the description from one to another, they all seem similar in scope.
If a group wants to come to Kansas City for next year's GoodGuys 12th Annual Mid-Western Nationals, mark your calendar for August 30-September 1, 2013. We'll even feed you the best BBQ in the nation.
