Can You Guys Recommend Any Books?

I'm not a motorhead - and I use that term with respect - and never have been. Nonetheless, I'm thinking that I'd like to build a car for the challenge of it. I won't be able to order the kit before next winter, and in the meantime I'd like to do some preparation by learning about the various systems and techniques used on a build from start to finish.

So, I started surfing around Amazon to find books and look at the reviews, and I came up with titles such as "Automotive Wiring and Electrical Systems" by Candela, and "How to Paint Your Car on a Budget" by Canahl. Then it occurred to me that some of you may have recommendations.

So, can anyone recommend any books for a guy who has never done any wrenching on a car more involved than replacing an alternator?

I could post a picture of my bookcase but you might not have the same taste in hot rods.

I would go to amazon.com and select books, search for hot rod, etc...

I buy a lot of used books from them and they have a good selection. The 33 build manual from ffr is not bad but only deals with one car. While most here don't really use it, there are good pictures and much to be learned from it. They have a digital version too.

I'm in Gig Harbor, WA (and I updated my profile to show that). I'd love to get the chance to go see and sit in a '33.

WRT the books, I'm looking for how-to's. "Building a Kit Car for Dummies" would be just about my speed.

I will have my 33 done in December and will be driving it up to Port Orchard in June 2013. If you want to talk about the ups and downs of the build.

You can buy the build manual from Factory Five. Despite how people complain about it, it's pretty good if you've never built a kit before.

Consider attending Build School. You can experience a build first-hand, get a lot of questions answered and raise your belief in some unfamiliar areas of the project. Plus you'll meet some great, like-minded people. More expensive than books, but worth the investment.

And you'll get $500 off the price of the kit when you order.

Bruce: I'd love to see your '33 when you're up here next summer. Stop by and we'll crack a few cold ones.

I'm hoping that I will be able to attend the Build School before committing to the project.
