Ridetech's 33 Build Page

Hey FFCars.com, this is sort of an introduction of our company and our Factory 5 build. We at Ridetech have been building a Factory 5 1933 Ford off and on for a while now. We're pretty far into the build right now but there is still plenty of more work to do. We hope to keep you all updated on whats happening with the build and in the future post some video of the car in action. If you want to catch up on what we've done on the car so far, you can check out our online journal here: 1933 Ford – Build Journal | Follow along as Ridetech builds it's first protouring streetrod

Some specs:

It started out as a standard Factory 5 33 Ford street rod kit but then we changed some things...

Engine - 427 cu in small block Ford with a Dart aluminum block and Brodix Neal heads built by Sunset Racecraft in Lubbock, Tx. MSD ignition, Holley Dominator EFI, custom stainless headers, Earls oil cooler, Mezeire electric water pump Approx. 630 hp and 600lb/ft torque
Trans - Rankin magnesium case clutchless 4 speed from the old Jasper Engines NASCAR program
Clutch - Tilton 5.5" triple disc carbon fiber, Magesium bellhousing, 8 lb steel flywheel
Rearend - Winters quickchange
Brakes - Baer 13" rotors with 6p calipers
Wheels - Speedlines 18x13 and 18x11
Tires - BFG KDW 295-35/18 and 335-30/18
Rear suspension - custom wishbone with TA series shocks. We will trade off between Hypercoil coilsprings, ShockWave airsprings, and some new Carbon fiber springs we've been playing with
Front suspension - inboard rocker arm with custom built control arms and the original Factory 5 attachemnt points, and the same shock combo as the rear
Custom stainless rollcage
custom built stainless exhaust with oval tubing and some special stainless mufflers that Flowmaster built for us. It should scare large children.
FuelSafe fuel cell
FuelSafe fire suppression system
custom built tinwork throughout...about 400 hours worth. All panels are double wall with some zoomy ceramic hi temp insulating blankets between the layers
ididit shorty tilt steering column
Unisteer electric power steering unit
Optima battery
Kirkey road race seats

If all goes smoothly, the car should make its track debut at the 1st annual Battle at the Banks autocross at Salem Speedway, Indiana on May 5. Battle At The Banks

After that we'll start hitting the Goodguys autocrosses and the track days.

Here are some pictures of where we are at right now:

Watching with interest....

WOW... So many good details in this...

AWESOME!!!

Arrowhead 04-24-2012 04:15 PM

Thanks for posting! Some of use have been skulking around your website getting a glimpse of the build. Gonna be a real track killer for sure.

ksuhre 04-24-2012 04:44 PM

I love it! I am especially glad to see people going well beyond the 550HP I put in mine. That way, when people say I'm crazy, I can say "Oh no, I'll show you CRAZY!" :mf_w00t1:

1fastsedan 04-24-2012 04:51 PM

Love the Tilton pedal assembly...that might cure my accelerator/brake pedal problem...hmmm....

ehansen007 04-24-2012 04:54 PM

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that's just not fair. That will smoke anything at the Good guys event. The roll cage is amazing! The tranny, the motor, the rear end! Holy cow! Will it be done in time for the Del Mar event in November? I hope not! :shifty:

LynnB 04-24-2012 07:31 PM

What ready-to-race weight are y'all shooting for?

Thanks much,

Lynn B.

sweet looking build. love the control arms and the custom panels. (427 don't look bad either!) what kind of carbon fiber spring are you developing? sounded interesting, keep us informed!

Mike D 04-24-2012 09:45 PM

That's a 385 series motor I think (429/460), not an FE.

Olli 04-24-2012 11:02 PM

Very cool. I love the front control arms.

Olli

j33ptj 04-24-2012 11:28 PM

I now understand why you could mount the power steering "inside", all the brake cylinders etc are at floor level!!

That must have saved a bunch of space behind the dash!!

Nope...Windsor small block, but with an old set of Cleveland style cup heads.

Barring complete implosion, we'll have this car competing at the Nashville Goodguys show on May 20. And beyond.

...and it should rev good with the 5.5" triple carbon clutch. Clutch and flywheel total weight is 13lbs.

george@ridetech 04-25-2012 05:19 PM

Thanks for the comments guys!

Somethings along these lines: Carbon Composite Bellows Springs | Hyperco

Here are some more pictures from the past couple of days. Steering wheel is in, lots of behind the scenes work being done. Mainly wiring.

:w00t:

Pretty much sums it up.

sheephearder 04-25-2012 06:19 PM

What has impressed me is how well things are thought out. I especially like the peddle box on the floor so the entire p/s can be under the dash. Great build Ridetech!

jim copland 04-26-2012 03:33 PM

impressive

Lots of great ideas and implementation. You guys are setting the bar pretty high, and I like it.

geoffav 04-26-2012 07:49 PM

The more I look at this car the more I see! Awesome :icon18:

george@ridetech 04-27-2012 06:49 PM

There are now wires coming out of every opening on the car ... :)

I was going with the door hinges being "as shipped". But then I looked at another picture and that theory is shot. :w00t:

I like the steering column location. :icon18:

Olli 04-28-2012 11:32 AM

It is refreshing to see such a low budget "by the book" build that anyone with $50. worth of Craftsman tools could duplicate. :)

Does the roll cage prevent removing the body now? Is it permanently welded in place?

I would think so with it passing through the dash. I'm gonna put the pvc back together one more time on mine. Now that I have the seat locations figured out I will be able to see if the bars are intrusive. I like having a handy place for the fire extinguisher and the roll over protection would make the car safer. Of course I mean when the bars are STEEL not pvc. :icon18:

ksuhre 04-28-2012 03:55 PM

Still on track for May 5th?

Are you guys still on track for the May 5th race? I might need to drive down and see this thing in person! :001_smile:
Kerby

jim copland 04-28-2012 04:52 PM

roll cage connection

I believe the roll cage is SS, so I am sure it is a bolted connection, but I also was curious as to how they made their connections.

Ridetechbret 04-29-2012 03:12 AM

The 33 ran for the first time tonite. Sounds great...I'll get a video posted Monday.

The stainless cage is welded in...body is permanently mounted.

The car WILL be in Salem next weekend for the Battle at the Banks autocross. I hope it's fast.
We'll be in Nashville on May 18 for the Goodguys event as well.

j33ptj 04-29-2012 09:17 AM

Will it actually be road legal???

And how are you adjusting alignment of the front wheels? The arms look all fixed?

tnx
Robert
