Glove Box Design
This is a glove box design that Galt made, I
call it the G-Box. He used a Shell Valley glove box shell and
cut out a door from wood, then covered it. The hinges that he
uses were bought from Lowe's Hardware for about $2.50. They are
Belwith, European Cabinet Hinge P6992-C. He also used a
magnetic pop-out stopper at the top to secure the door. You could
easily add a cam-lock.
You need to pop out the spring from the hinge,
it won't be needed.

The finished product. We put a piece of tape on the back to make
opening and closing easier while we adjusted it.

Door attached to a small 1x2 board. This board will attach to
the bottom of the glove box with screws from underneath.
I covered the front wood with vinyl, then covered the back
aluminum cut-out (dash scrap) with vinyl, then screwed the two
together to make a nice sandwich. |

This is how it would sit in the glove box in the closed,
upright position. Click to enlarge any photo. |

This is how it would look when you open it. |

Installed flush with the dash. We use a magnetic pop-out
button/stopper at the top. You could also add a handle or lock
if you want. |

Close-up shot of the hinge. These are very smooth
operating hinges that you can buy from any hardware
store. You can see the board that we mounted the hinges
too. |

Galt didn't cover his aluminum. See how nice it opens. It's a
very solid design because the hinges are made for very heavy cabinet
doors. |

This is a good shot of the top magnetic stopped. When you push
on it, it "pops" open the door. It is mounted
to a very small piece of wood. |

Another shot of Galt's door laying wide open. |

Here's a great drawing that Carlton Bridges
did for us. Click on the picture to enlarge and print, or open the

Here's a rough sketch of a glove box door.
Print this out and is should be 13.80 " at the widest point. If
someone will check this, it would be great! Also, if someone
wants to clean this up, email
it me.

Carpet Question:
[GR]: "Just got done building a console
for the roadster. I haven't unpacked the carpet from the box yet and
was wondering if FFR includes a little "extra" carpet with
the kit? I only need a piece about 6" x 18". If there's
not enough with the kit where can I get some that matches?"
Answers:
[JB]: "There really isn't any extra with
the kit but Home Depot has an exact match. It comes on a six foot
roll and you can buy it by the foot. I think it was under $3.00 a
foot."
